The new Department of Crop Physiology was carved out by splitting the erstwhile Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding & Crop Physiology on 2nd June 2019. The Department offers different UG courses in Crop Physiology and Seed Technology, including some experiential learning module courses such as Seed Production Technology, Molecular Diagnostics, Diagnostic Physiology and Plant Growth Regulators for the B.Sc. (Ag) programme. The Department is also offering the PhD programme in Plant Physiology. The Department offers various interdisciplinary courses at the PG level as supporting courses for postgraduate students of other Departments.  The M.Sc. (Ag) Programme in Plant Physiology was started in the academic year 2024-25. The research activity of the faculty members of the Department includes some high priority areas such as stress physiology, molecular biology, nanotechnology, mineral nutrition, seed physiology, plant tissue culture and plant growth regulators. In addition to supervising M.Sc. (Ag) and Ph.D. students, faculty members prioritize the success of students preparing for JRF, NET, SRF and ARS and other similar competitive examinations through guidance and career counselling. The faculty members are also engaged in various externally funded research projects in addition to their regular academic duties.

The Objectives of the Department are:
1. To teach different courses on Crop Physiology/ Plant Physiology at UG, PG and Ph.D. levels.
2. To promote research work in Crop Physiology/ Plant Physiology and its related areas.
3. To facilitate interdisciplinary teaching, research and training for students of other disciplines of Agriculture.
4. To impart training to farmers on various crop physiological approaches/ methods for improving yield and quality of crops.
