Department of Horticulture & Post-Harvest Technology

Department of Horticulture and Post-Harvest Technology (HPHT) has started functioning from September, 2016 by restructuring erstwhile Department of Crop Improvement, Horticulture and Agricultural Botany (CIHAB) with intake capacity of 11 students under M.Sc. (Ag.). in Horticulture degree programme. The department offers various courses on Horticulture in both undergraduate and post-graduate programmes. Different core courses and advanced elective courses are offered to students as recommended by Dean Committees and ICAR. These academic programmes are supported with well equipped laboratories and various advanced instruments. The department has a well established Horticultural Farm having plant growing structures, experimental plots for field research programmes of M.Sc and Ph. D. students, various horticultural plants, herbaceous borders, pergola etc. for demonstration and hands on training for students. Priority of research as emphasized by faculty members includes field trials on nutrients and growth regulators, use of nanoparticles and mulches etc. for various potential horticultural crops etc. Besides supervising the research programmes of M.Sc. and Ph.D. students, faculty members emphasize the performance of students pursuing ARS/NET/JRF/SRF and similar other examinations through arrangement of special classes and counselling. Apart from usual academic activities, faculty members are also involved in conducting various research programmes under different externally funded research projects (BARC, NHM etc.). Extension activities through interaction with farmers, distribution of planting materials and arrangement of training programmes are also part of regular departmental activities.
