The Department consists of three disciplines namely, Soil Science, Agricultural Chemistry and Biochemistry. The activities of the Department comprise mainly of teaching, research and extension work. The Department offers teaching programs both in undergraduate and post-graduate levels. Along with all the departments of the Institute of Agriculture (PalliSiksha Bhavana) our department also contribute courses offered in the UG program. The department has been offering one post graduate courses namely, M.Sc. (Ag) in Soil science & Agricultural Chemistry.  The department also has been offering various courses for PhDin Soil science & Agricultural Chemistry programme. 
Besides teaching and research activities, the teachers and students are involved in extension activities for solving various problems of the farmers in the locality. Recommendations being made from the findings of the investigations carried out by the Department for farmers adoption in crop cultivation, soil and fertility management for improving crop quality and productivity, soil and water conservation. Extensive RAWE program is offered to the UG students.
